About Us

Welcome to PrimaHealth, a Cork-based award-winning child and adolescent mental health service dedicated to supporting young people aged 5-17.

Emerging from University College Cork's Innovation Centre, PrimaHealth was founded by Danny Mc Enery, a former detective who witnessed firsthand how a lack of psychological support led many adolescents toward negative outcomes. A Cork native, Danny earned a master’s degree in Applied Psychology at UCC and founded PrimaHealth to address the unmet needs of children and parents navigating neurodiversity.

Joining Danny is Dr. Leo Yoshida, a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with extensive experience in both mental health services and emergency care. Dr. Yoshida has witnessed how undiagnosed conditions like ADHD in childhood often lead to crises in adolescence and is passionate about the importance of early intervention. Dr. Yoshida is from Canada, studied medicine at UCC, and now lives in Cork with his wife and three children.

Together with PrimaHealth's multidisciplinary team, Danny and Leo are building a service dedicated to transforming young lives through early, effective, and compassionate care.

PrimaHealth's 3-Stage ADHD Assessment and Diagnosis Pathway

PrimaHealth’s ADHD assessment and care pathway is designed to provide families with clarity, consistency, and comprehensive support. Our three-stage approach ensures that every child’s needs are carefully evaluated and addressed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team.

Stage 1: Screening:

-Parents begin with a pre-screening consultation with one of our Care Coordinators.
-Detailed information is collected from parents, teachers, and the child through structured interviews and questionnaires to understand the child’s behavior and challenges.

Stage 2: Assessment and Diagnosis:

-The child undergoes a series of clinical consultations with our expert team, including psychiatrists, educational psychologists, and other specialists.
-This process involves direct observations, cognitive assessments, and a final psychiatric evaluation to confirm or refine the ADHD diagnosis.

Stage 3: Aftercare and Support:

-Following diagnosis, a personalised intervention plan is created in consultation with the parents. This may include therapy (e.g., CBT or occupational therapy) and/or medication, depending on the child’s needs and the parents’ preferences.
-Ongoing support is offered to families to navigate treatment options and ensure long-term success.

Our pathway also includes additional assessments, if necessary, for co-occurring conditions such as autism, learning difficulties, or speech and language challenges. This ensures a holistic understanding of every child’s unique profile and needs.
